We flew to Cali for about a week at the end of September for Tommy’s cousin, Henry’s, wedding.
Josie loves to fly, and she’s been doing it since she was about 2 and a half months old. Our biggest worries with her on flights now are if she will leave her fellow passengers in peace, or try to talk their ear off the whole flight. But this was Tre’s first flight and at only 6 weeks old we weren’t sure how he would do.
Happily, both kids did great! Josie entertained herself with some toys and the t.v., and Tre zonked out as we boarded the plane and didn’t wake up until we had landed.
Tommy and his brother were asked to be groomsmen
and Josie and her cousin were two of the flower girls
The girls were adorable. I wish I had gotten some video and more pictures, but I was trying to keep a 6 week old baby quiet, so, here’s what we ended up with:
But Tommy got a few more:
They did a great job walking down the isle and sprinkling flower petals on the way.
And they enjoyed themselves so much, that when they got to the end of the walk, they didn’t want to quit – there was no where else to walk, so they stood in place and continued to empty the contents of their little baskets ever so carefully and each time an adult would beckon to them to come sit down they would smile sweetly and completely ignore us and continue to scatter flowers.
The wedding itself was beautiful and the bride was radiant
The hotel where the wedding was held and where we got to stay, The St. Regis, was amazing.
This was the view from our balcony. We could have watched the wedding from the comfort of our comfy bed!
It was gorgeous and the weather, though crazy hot for being so close to the beach (in the 90’s all week long!), was great.
Tommy got to hang with his brother and cousins, which doesn’t happen too often anymore, now that they are all married
And Josie had a great time in the family and kiddy pool, despite a few spats with her cousin (not shown here)
And over the rest of the week she asked nearly every day if we could please go back to the hotel
However, that would have broken her Daddy’s heart. Because, no offense to wonderful family, the true excitement of this trip for him was knowing that we would be in Grandpa’s apartment in China Town and within walking distance of all the Chinese food he could pack away in 3 or 4 days.
It cracks me up that he takes more pictures of his food than he does of his family
Over the rest of the week we walked around China Town, got taquitos on Olvera Street, hung out on the Santa Monica Pier and beach, and visited The Cube – a children’s discovery museum.
On our way back from Olvera Street with our fresh taquitos, we stopped in a BBQ shop for another “snack”:)
We were super hot and took advantage of the big fan by the door as we waited for our order
Josie helped pick out a tank top for Daddy to use on the beach
She and mom rode a spinning ride on the pier that made us both a little sick
Then, while Gning-Gning and Tre napped in the shade, Daddy, Mom and Josie rode the ferris wheel
After some ice cream to cool us down we headed to the beach.
Josie was a little nervous this time, so she preferred to stay away from the waves and just play in the sand. And while the ocean is lovely, it’s cold in these parts, so I preferred to not get more than my toes wet.
And Tre kind of preferred not to mess with any of it…have we mentioned that this kid is a champion sleeper?
We did make him join us in one family photo, though.
The Cube was lots of fun. We are members of Thanksgiving Point here in Utah. And Thanksgiving Point is a member of a national society of museums, so we can get free admission to any of that societies participating museums throughout the U.S. It’s pretty cool, since this place would have cost us close to $100 for our family to visit it!?!
We had dinner with the extended Yee family; we got to spend lots of time with Uncle Ed, Auntie Liz and little Loren; and another dinner with the Lee family.
We love our visits to L.A. and can’t wait for the next one!
