One of my amazing and generous sisters invited all the rest of us to join her family in Oceanside, CA for a week long vacation.
Our family and grandma were all that were able to accept the offer, but we had a fabulous time!
The fun for Josie started as soon as we stepped off the plane in Long Beach. We flew in on the day of a U of U vs. USC game, and just about every Ute fan from home made the trip the same time we did, and we all apparently rented vehicles from Hertz.
We ended up sitting (or, in Josie’s case, running all over the place and entertaining everyone around her) for about 2 hours before it was our turn to take “the next available car.”
Then it was off to the beach!
Josie had loved the beach and ocean in the Caribbean. But the Pacific tends to be a few degrees cooler, so it took her a while to decide if she liked it or not.
Having cousins to play with helped her warm up – literally and figuratively!
The condo we all shared was right across the street from the beach. It was great to walk out the door, look both ways and jump into (or in my and Josie’s cases, away from) the waves.
We took a nice walk down the promenade to the pier.
And later that night Grandma babysat so the rest of the adults could have a kid-free date night.
It just so happened that our trip fell over Josie Lai’s SECOND BIRTHDAY!!
It turned out to be kind of a bust for her, because we didn’t have room in our luggage for any cool presents, and it was just our little group to party with her…
But, she got a cake (which she put the candles on her self) and we did our best to make it festive for her.
That night at bed time, Daddy and Josie went out on the porch to listen to the waves and look at the moon. Daddy told Josie she got to make one Birthday Wish on Mr. Moon.
Her wish was to see Elmo…
and guess what?!?
Mr. Moon totally came through for her!
