In early January Ryan started crying one evening out of the blue.
Long story short, we ended up taking him to the ER.
After a quick wait in the lobby, we were taken back to a room for a much longer wait.
An exam was given, X-Rays were taken and we waited some more.
Finally, we were told that while it was clear that something was bothering him, the x-rays and exam were inconclusive. They put his little arm in a hard splint and sent us home with a referral to see an orthepedic specialist later in the week.
So he wore the splint for a day or two and had a few moments of pain and tears, but not much.
And his tiny sling was adorable.
And then Friday we went to see the orthepedic specialist. He told us its pretty normal to not see anything on
the x-rays of little ones, because their bones are still so soft.
He removed the splint, and Ryan let him move his arm all around, and seemed fine. He said we could cast it just to be safe, or we could watch him over the weekend and see how he did, which is what we opted for.
He was fine all weekend long, playing, moving and using his arm as normal, until Sunday
night.
Out of nowhere, again, pain and tears.
So back to the doctor on Monday for the just-in-case-cast.
He didn’t love it, but he sure did adapt quickly. He had taken a few steps here and there before the cast, but once his arm made crawling more challenging, he just stood up and took off!
So, even if there really was nothing wrong with the arm, at least the cast acted as a catalyst to get him on his feet full time!
He wore the cast for a couple of weeks and since it’s been removed there have been no other incidents of inexplicable pain or tears.
