We spent the Fourth in Milford!
It was my (and the kids) first time celebrating a major holiday in a small town
and we LOVED it!
I love spending a few days in Milford every once in a while anyway – so quiet and peaceful, and it feels so safe – every one knows everyone else so even if a kid wandered off, someone you know would bring ‘em back to you.
Anyway, we started the festivities off with the parade:
It was kind of a long wait before anything made it down to our end of main street…
So there we were, enjoying the parade, when all of a sudden, this headed straight toward us:
Josie had abandoned her dad, uncle and cousin and the rest of the participants in the kids section to race ahead.
After a quick pic, she was sent back to find the others, and we continued to enjoy small town Americana:
Pretty soon, Josie was back with the rest of the kids.
Brooklyn and Josie had decorated their bike and scooter so they could participate in the kids section of the parade;
Next time we’ll have them decorate their four wheeler:
They were the ONLY kids on bikes!
Oh well, they had fun and didn’t notice the difference.
The only downside to the parade was that some joker decided to use it as his personal venue to promote his own political agenda…
As uncool as that was, the rest of the day was awesome.
We headed up to the city park and arrived just in time for Brooklyn and Josie to jump into the 4 year old girl sprint.
Josie took third place and won a quarter!
Then we played a bunch of carnival style games run by the High School Cheerleaders for little prizes
I didn’t get any pictures of it, but Josie’s best game was the basket ball shoot – takes after her Daddy.
Brooklyn had a great arm and dunked a couple of people on this one!
We enjoyed some snow cones and caught up with some old friends
Later we went to the public pool for the free swim and money dive
Josie was very upset that she didn’t collect more money than what she did; but I was super impressed with her determination and tenacity.
There were a few times I really thought she would pass out because of lack of oxygen – she would stay underwater so long trying to find coins and only surface long enough to take another quick breath before trying again.
That night, as it started to get dark, Uncle Johnny lit some fireworks in the street for us to watch
And though that display was quite impressive, after the kids fell asleep,
Tommy and I headed over to the high school parking lot to watch the town’s display
The rest of our time was filled with typical Milfordian Fun
Watching a hail storm from the front porch
Aunt Jen giving Tre a new hairdo to counteract Daddy’s toughening up of Josie Lai
Chillin’ in the pool in the front yard
and of course, roasting marshmallows in the homemade fire pit we dug in the front yard as the neighbors drive by and say hi.
Tommy calls it Red Neck;
I say,
God Bless the Red, White and Blue!
